I just finished making this for Petunia, I will post pictures of her modeling it when Gunner's is done. I still have a few things to do on the harness. The harness/coat is lined in fleece and the bottom can be removed so she can only wear the harness and it is double fleece. She also has a treat pocket on the bottom.

She can't model it until Gunner's is finished :) He's already been wanting to try Petunia's on--daddy said no he can't wear pink.

Oh it's so pretty! Owen says pink is his favorite color and you should let Gunenr wear it if he wans. When his daddy isn't home...

Amy, I did let Gunner try it on-LOL daddy wasn't happy. The color on this is realy pretty and the lace-it looks better in person-the picture doesn't do it justice. The lace also has hearts on it.

I think it is just beautiful!! I can see Laika in such a pretty girly outfit... I haven't been sewing much except to make a few coat harnesses for friends. I shoulda taken pictures of them. I made one for a friend's cavalier who can't have anything around his neck so I designed a coat harness for him that has a padded front part that just goes quite low on the chest. It turned out pretty well... And BELLY BANDS. Geez. I made some for my friend's chihuahua and now more people want them. Kinda boring to make and unfortunately most of my material is girly looking...not too cool for belly bands LOL. I have to make some today for a lil pom-chi mix.

Walmart has some realy manly material you ought to check into their clearance bins. You ought to post some of the stuff you sew.

I always check their remnants....nothing great lately although I did get a nice big chunk of colorful fleece for 2.32. I keep buying fleece and don't know why LOL. Salsa needs a new coat though...I want to make one that covers her chest too but haven't figured it out yet...I'm thinking it could be one piece with a hole for her head/neck, then comes down over her chest and has a strap/band that comes up and around and velcros at the top-on her back. Just haven't had the time or patience to mess with it. After this agility trial (this weekend) I don't have any until march. Of course I gotta get ready for Florida then!

All you have to do on that coat is make your regular harness style coat, cut out a panel for the bottom and attach it 4 ways with velcro.

That looks good. I actually have a prototype cut out. I don't use velcro in the front I like to slip it over her head. So if I jsut sewed it on that would work...and I think I will try my idea of extending the sides and having them come over the top and velcro on the back and leaving the ones off the basic coat.... Just gotta do it though...I'll send a picture when I make it!!
I never did get the hang of the darn bias tape edges. It's so hard for me or I'm really dumb about it or something. it looks so good though and makes your coats look so professional!!

The newer harnesses I make are slip overs and I'm sure you can make the coat that way also.

Yes, I made all the coats for my dogs that way...it just seems easier and Laika has Fear of Velcro anyway LOL The less the better as far as she is concerned. Which is a legitimate concern I think as it COULD stick to her hairy self.

I started making the harnesses like that a year ago when a friend that had a long haired one said she didn't like the noise of velcro and it attaches to her hair. Much simpler and easier to do. I only use the buckle if need to be or people want them.

I agree. I sew the whole thing together with two layers and just leave one belly strap open to turn it right side out.
I got some sock monkey material on ebay to make Salsa a new harness. I like monkeys :) And she's so little...it's one fat quarter and I could make two out of it I bet!
