I have noticed that my Little girl is becoming a "Chunky Monkey!"
It is not her fault *raises hand* Guilty as Charged! MY BAD!
She gets too many treats and not enuff EXERCISE!!!!
Well, It is the winter months and I have just started to have her chase ME in the apartment. When we do go out for a walk *weather permitting* I do run with them for a short distance. :dogwalk:
So Here is my Solution.
I will continue to feed her, her one raw medallion (Nature's Variety)per meal (that's twice a day)
I would like to add "filler" to her diet. Example: green beans, peas, carrots and the sort.
What vegetables should I avoid giving her?
I want to be able to softly boil fresh veggies for her and Casey and store it in containers and freeze them.
Is this okay?
Please :help: me trim down my Southern Belle :hearts:

If Sophie is anything like my boys, they like their veggies crunchy.
If you are able to stock up on medallions and their other supplies, I would go to the store once or twice a week to replenish crunchy carrots and green beans.
There are some frozen greenbeans that I have found (it is actually green and yellow beans) that come out crunchy when dethawed). But i like fresh better.
Or at least mix in some fresh with stuff you froze.
(of course avoid onions and broccoli but you know that already. I didn't know for a long time that broccoli can cause stones in dogs...total news to me)

Oh, my - thanks for the info about broccoli! I DIDN'T KNOW THAT!!! :duh:

Where did you find that info?
It's suppose to be good for them. It does have a toxic ingredient "isothiocyanate" which
could cause gastrointestinal problems. So should only be given in small amounts.
I worked about 2-2.5 lbs. off of my Julie by reducing her kibble intake by about 1/2 and added frozen green beans. I thawed them in the microwave for about 45 sec. first. The queen will now NOT go back to simply eating kibble, so we still buy the green beans, and I guess you could call it weight maintenance!

Two different vets in two different states told me that and I thought I also read it somewhere. Maybe they didn't think there was any "good" amount since most people overfeed dogs everything and anything. As a precaution, I never give it to them but maybe i am overcautious. I don't freak out if they accidentally get a piece dropped on the floor like i would if it were chocolate, etc, though. We don't keep chocolate anywhere they could get at it, but I am known to flip out at guests or not serve/have a dish of chocolate anywhere when people are over because people just think its cute/funny to defy doggie parents.

good luck! We managed to slightly slim Cricket down but he could really do with losing another pound or two. I just can't seem to get it off of him - like my extra 10 pounds. We did have to limit his 'table' food big time. He rarely gets anything other than a baby carrot or small corner of some cheese. We really don't give him any more treats either. We praise him verbally for the good things he does but rarely give out 'snacks' anymore. He seems much more energetic since he's gotten down to around 16/17lbs.

I managed to get Teddy down from 18 pounds to 15.2 just by reducing his dry kibble and adding in green beans or carrots (he really prefers the carrots though). I also had to cut back on his treats during the day. Now he only gets them when we are doing his obedience training sessions, and a half a slice of cheese in the morning to take his pill with since he refuses to chew it.
It's been WAY too cold here for his to go out for his walkies - even with his fleece coat on he still gets cold if he's out for more than a few minutes. And doG help us if there's any rain or SNOW...he won't go outside to even pee!
Good luck with Sophie's diet.
Tasha likes pumpkin, green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, bell pepper--but cooked. She won't eat them crunchy. :dunno:
You can give Sophie my email address if she needs to vent about being on a diet. :) Auntie K2 completely understands.
Some "add~ins" that Pippit enjoys are cooked green beans, wax beans, carrots, peas or zucchini, fat free cottage cheese and fat free/plain yogurt. Believe it or not, when I give him his chicken and a bit of yogurt, he'll eat the yogurt first every time. :) That's my boy!!
