We had our dachshund meetup on Saturday at the Humane Society, we give them a donation for use of their facilities. I was waiting at the front desk to give our donation and there was a lady standing at the counter crying. She was writing them a check so I thought that maybe she was surrendering her dog. Turns out the night before her and her husband had to stop to eat with Cesar their dog in the back seat (car was in viewing range), someone broke in and stole Ceasar. They didn't take anything else of value just the dog. Cesar was found wandering along side IH 35 on the north side of Austin (for those of you who live in and around Austin know how crazy 35 is). A girl had picked him and brought him to the San Antonio Humane society, luckily for Cesar he was microchipped. The crying lady was there to pick him up- he is 13 1/2 years old, blind in one eye and deaf in one ear. I am sure who ever took him after finding out his problems just dumped him off. He definetly had some :angel7: watching over him!!

Angels yes...hard working ones!!

I understand the need for food, but I always drive through with B in the car!! Hopefully others can learn from their mistake!

What a horrible thing to happen. I use to take one of my dogs everywhere, then there was a lot of them being stolen out of cars. Sooo I never take them if they have to stay in the car unattended. I'm glad Cesar got back to his mom and dad.

People are stupid! (I am referring to the thief) But I am so glad it is a happy ending. :) I tried not to leave Gigi in the car for long time.

I SO know how crazy IH 35 is!!! I'm glad that Cesar found his way home! John wanted to leave Julie and Jax in the car to go eat somewhere once. and I told him he was welcome to go in and eat, but I would be in the car with the weens!!!

Such a happy ending :cheer2: to a story that could have ended badly!

When I take Cricket, it's drive through for us. The only time I've left him in the car was to run in and pay for gas when the credit card thing wasn't working.

I"m so glad that there was a happy ending to this story. I'm with Lins. I don't like to leave my dogs in the car if I can avoid it. I've had two cars stolen and the saving grace both times was that there was nothing of real value in the cars. If my dogs are safe, I can deal with the rest.

BTW, I hope they catch the people that did this and hang them. :mad3:

There was a lady who wanted to adopt him, she called and left her number with the Humane Society, they are hoping she knew who turned him in (they didn't leave any info). They were going to give all the info to the police and see what they could find out.

Wow - Cesar's owners were SO fortunate!! He could have been dumped anywhere and killed or something worse - they really got lucky. I'll bet they learned a hard lesson they won't forget.

There are a lot of stories out therer about small dogs being stolen. I amglad this one ended up great. There were a couple of things on the dogs side.... someone looking over him, microchip and that lovely lady that took her time to bring him to the Humane Society!!
