Pokey is at peace now. There was cancer in his liver as well as a splenic mass that was causing internal bleeding, and there was nothing more we could do. Many vets, Pokey's Dad and I tried everything humanely possible.

He had a very beautiful passing. We had a lot of time with him, then Pokey's Dad held him in his arms.

Dear Pokey,
"Best Boy Ever!"
Thank you for bringing so much joy into our lives. We truly could not have had a better friend. You will always be with us in our hearts, filling them with all that you gave us throughout the years. You rest knowing that you were loved and lived a rich full life, and that we would do anything for you.
"To know him is to love him."

Oh, Renée, knowing that it is coming just doesn't make it any easier at the end. But you and Pokey's Dad gave him, and yourselves, and us, such a great gift of the last few days with him, and I hope that brings some comfort for the brave little Sir Pokey sized hole in your hearts. Thank you for sharing his last days with us. May all of our furkids have such a loving and peaceful end. A candle is lit here for our special little man. :candle2: Godspeed, Pokey, til you all meet again. :hug99::hug99::hug99:

Oh Nae!

I have done so well and kept my composure almost the whole time this has been going on, even through the heartbeaking PMs we have shared, but when I saw that big ole sweet frosty face pic it got me.

You did everything under the sun and then some, and if ever a dog was beloved and knew it, it was Brave Sir Pokey.

You and Darrin need to rest now - this has been incredibly draining on both of you. Love you love you love you, and there is a combination of mourning for his loss and joy that you and D kept him comfortable and cocooned in love until the very end. I KNOW you made all the right decisions and I am proud to know such fine people.

I only hope someone loves me and takes as good care of me when I reach my golden years and its my turn to pass as you and Darrin did of Pokey. He was a lucky, lucky little fella and will be sorely missed.

Hugs to Marta, too, for she will surely be lonely without her little furpal.

When Grrrt got sick, I was comforted by the thought that she may be with Pokey when she went to the bridge. Knowing they're going really doesn't make it easy at all. A dog with such loving parents could only make heaven better with his presence. May your hearts be healed with the love he gives, and he's never really far off away. The "Pokey sized hole" in your hearts will be filled with strength and love when you remember the good times he got to have with you. My heart goes out to all those who know and love Brave Sir Pokey.

My Tristan also had a tumor in his spleen and went very quickly. I know he'll be watching for Pokey at the Rainbow Bridge.

I am so sorry to hear about Pokey. He reminds me so much of Bunny and Cooler and I'm sure he is running around and playing with them now. Pokey was one of our precious older pups on this board. I feel so sad that I won't be able to hear anymore stories of his day. :hug99:

Thank you so much for sharing your brave and handsome Sir Pokey with us here on the DLC. I am just in tears over here thinking about how hard it is to let go of such a beloved companion and my prayers are with you as you go through this difficult time. Your tribute slideshow was so beautiful--getting to see all the wonderful sides of Sir Pokey. He is at peace now, completely free from pain, and running around happily at Rainbow Bridge with all the other furpals that are waiting there too.

Renee, I'm so sorry for your loss. Pokey was very special, and had a very happy life with you--even with his problems, you worked hard to give him the best life possible, and I know he loved you for it. He's at peace and no longer in pain, a small consolation when your heart is aching. :hug99: :hug99:

Once again, I sit before a screen looking at a keyboard trying to come up with something that will convey just how my heart hurts for you and once again I'm at a loss.
I'm sorry is soo simple it doesn't seem to fill the depth of emotion that it is meant to.
I'm glad that you had time to spend loving him and being loved. I am one of those who firmly believe that our babies will be there to meet us when our time on this earth is at end. I look forward to meeting Sir Pokey and getting many sweet kisses from him.

I am so so sorry to hear about Brave Sir Pokey. WIsh I could stop crying and think of something comforting to say. I was always touched by his frosty face and sweet eyes. He reminds me of my grandmothers old dog Zipper.I never got to hug Pokey but he has really touched my heart. Zipper,Mickle,Little Bit,Petey Pablo,Ginger,Spice,Sugar and Jim are all waiting over the bridge to greet him and maybe have a round of tennis ball. My prayers and sympathies are with you and your family:hug99: :bighug: Pokey had the bestest family ever:hug99:

Pokey had the eyes of an angels and that's because he was an angel in disquise. :angel5: I'm sure his time with you was a blessing for both parties and I don't think I can fully express how sorry I am to hear of his passing. I'm sure he touched your life just as much as you touched his.

Remember (Author Unknown):
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thank you for the outpouring of support! I think there was as much love for Pokey on this board as there was in our house. To know that he was loved by so many helps to ease our pain. We are, of course, heart broken, but our pain will ease with time. It helps enormously to have the support of kind people like all of you.

I remember the day we brought Pokey into our home. We hadn't seen any pictures of him before he arrived, and when we saw his frosty face, our first thought was, "My gosh! He's so old!" As Renée says, "I knew someday he'd break my heart." But he was so sweet, we couldn't turn him away just for being a little older than we expected! And I'm very glad we didn't. He has broken our heart with his passing, but it was totally worth it to have lived with him and to have experienced the joy he brought us. He will be missed deeply.

Marta saw his decline over the last month and seemed to understand a little bit what was going on. She seems a little confused as to where Pokey is now, and tilts her head at us whenever we say his name. She is, however, really enjoying the extra attention from us and our friends and neighbors as we tell them what happened. She will miss him. (And right now she has the really difficult task of finishing off the remaining baby food we bought for Pokey. Darn!)

Thank you again for your support. It really does feel good to know that so many people cared so much about our little guy. Renee and I have been reading all of your posts and mainly just taking our time to rest and recover. It's been some long nights helping Pokey through his hard time, and now we need some time to relax.

Thank you for joining our board and sharing Pokey with us, including this difficult time that you are going through.

All of our members and furkids are special and have their own wonderful story's and Pokey was no exception.

Pokey had a great Mommy and Daddy who took good care of him and made sure he had a good life right to the end, and I'm he sure he appreciated that.
