View Full Version : My Max Had Surgery On Monday

Max is 11 years old. Hubby found a ping pong size mass on his rear inner thigh a week ago Sunday. We love on him all the time and for us to have missed this.......Anyway, on Monday (a week ago) I took him to the vet. I knew it was not a lipoma because it was too hard and was a knobby mass. The vet could not do it until yesterday.

The vet thinks it is a peripheal nerve sheath tumor but we will not know for sure until th epath report gets back. That might take a week to 10 days. So this will be a long week. I do not feel good about this and I don't think the vet does either.

Oh Ina I am so sorry to hear that. Obviously you got on it as soon as you found it- :cheer2: - that is always helpful. I hate to hear Max had to have surgery- at 10 Duchie had some work done a couple of weeks ago and it sure is scary when they get up around that double digit mark, especially.

Best wishes and :bigrayz: for a good report and speedy recovery for Max and :gphug1: for you and DH.

Oh Ina! I DO know what you're oging through...oddly enough, my Maxe also had a tumour removed when she was 11. It was on her lung, and to get it they had to remove the whole lobe. She had to go to our region's vet school to have it done, which is on Prince Edward Island, and I had to leave her there for a week. I'll never forget laying on my bed the whole day of the surgery, cuddled up with Alex and the phone. It was agonizing waiting for the path report. The good news is that she lived another 4 years after that; I know it's hard not to worry, but cancer doesn't always mean the end. Alex also lost a good chunk of her bowel because of a ruptured tumour, and here she is 4 years later as well. :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: for Max, and a HUGE :hug99: for you. thoughts and prayers are with you guys and I know :angel7: Maxe is looking out for her namesake.

Max is still pretty sleepy today. Doesn't have much appittie. I hand fed him some chicken last night and chicken broth. he has scrammbled eggs this am with his pain med and antibiotic. I am picking up and taking him outside to to use the bathroom (too many steps) and he is not having any problem. he was not interested in his dog food this am;that is why he got eggs.

I talked with the holistic vet that is treating Buckley (one of our DRNA down dogs). When we get the path report back I will be going to her to see wht she thinksand her treatment options.

Thanks for all the prayers and healing thoughts! I will update as I find out more info. You all rock!
