Today I found out Dax is going to be adopted in January by one of our volunteers in Houston. She has a few other boys and a doggie door and just fell in love with Dax. I have no doubts that she will be a fabulous forever home for him!
Dax is my 10th foster. Nine times this year I have been SO happy for the dogs and not really sad - the happiness canceled out any sadness. I was a little sad when Basil left, but his new home was just so PERFECT that it was hard to be sad. And I knew since he was so bad with the cats that there was no way we could keep him.
But this 10th one got me. I got the email and just started crying!! Dax has stolen our hearts, completely. He is the sweetest little snugglebug munchkin and I could just cuddle up with him all day. But he needs a quieter home as sometimes he gets kind of freaked when people come over. He would love a doggie door and he's getting one. He can't really walk on a leash and I love to take my dogs everywhere. And above all, we are not ready to adopt a second dog.
I will miss him so much and I will probably keep crying when I think about it - I am right now!! But, such is life and such is fostering. I figured it would not always be so easy. But this is for sure the first time it's broken my heart.
Of course more dogs are coming along to keep me busy. I will be getting one for a few days tomorrow, long enough for me to get him vetted since my schedule is more flexible than the foster he'll be going to. Then this weekend I am taking on another foster, a young black and tan male who is drop dead gorgeous. I agreed to take on a third because CTDR is so freaking full! So, life goes on and Dax will stay here forever in our hearts. :hearts: :hearts:

Sending you a :bighug: Courtney. I know it must be hard.
Dax is a special little fella indeed. I still think of Basil from time to time. But i know he is in the happiest home ever!
I could never Foster. I'd cry when one got adopted and then would want to keep them all!
:bighug: Oh Courtney... Dax will always love you too. :heartbt: Thanks for taking such wonderful care of him. You changed his life for the better. :hearts:
I still think of Basil from time to time. But i know he is in the happiest home ever!
I think of little Basil from time to time too! Such lucky dogs to have been in your care. :heartbt:

Oh, Courtney, I know how you feel. It is hard to participate in a rescue and then have to give them up. :( I remember when Pixey and Dixey left, I was not sure I wanted them to leave. Next Monday, when I'm in Dallas, I'm going to be bringing a little pup home to Arizona, and I know it will be hard for me to not keep him. I've been debating whether to keep him overnight or not. :)

Here's a big :bighug: for a real rescue  You've done so well preparing all your fosters for great lives after they leave you. I know that you loved Dax and he loved you. You've made it possible for him to go on to a loving home and now you'll help another one on it's way. I just want to :thanx: for the all dachsies that you've helped. You've made a better life possible for each and every one.

Oh Courtney! My heart is just breaking for you. You put huge tears in my eyes!! I was wondering how you would handle it when Dax got adopted (if YOU didn't adopt him first, that is). You have done such wonders with him. You are the definition of an  You have helped 10 little doggies get a second lease on life...and who knows how many more to come. Someday, when the time is right a little guy will walk into your home and never walk out again. Good luck with the new little one and can't wait to see pictures!! :hearts: :heartbt: :hearts:
Many :bighug:s for you Courtney, this makes me sad too I love seeing little Dax he is quite the little man. You are such an :angel5: to foster all the needy Doxies and finding them loving homes. Here's a few happy :rayz: :rayz: :rayz: to get you through this adoption. Look forward to seeing your future furkids. :hearts:
Courtney, I have more respect for you than you will ever know! You are a true :angel6: and have made such a huge difference in the lives of so many animals!
I think that you let them all into your heart, but every once in a while one breaks through and fills your soul too. :gphug1: I just  that one day you can fail fostering, because there won't be so many little ones waiting to be saved.
Good Luck little Dax, we will all miss you too!! :hearts: :heartbt: :hearts:

I feel for you Courtney.... At least you know that he will be taken care of properly I'm sure he will never forget you and what you have done for him I'm sorry your taking this one hard, but he will be forever grateful for the :angel7: that saved him. :appl: :appl:
:bighug: Gee, Courtney, I was beginning to think you were superhuman! I would have been in tears for each and every one of your gorgeous fosters when they left. But 10 dogs helped already?! That's something to be proud of--and more who so desparately need you. Hopefully those new little faces will allow you to smile through the tears when Dax goes to his forever home. He is such a special little man and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I'll really miss seeing pictures of him.

I am so proud of what you do! I don't think I can foster, because I would probably be so sad everytime when they get adopted. :bighug:

I'm so happy for Dax but I know it has to be hard for you. I fell in love with him by seeing pictures alone. I can't imagine what it's like to have the little man with me day and night. You've done a great job, you should be proud of yourself. :hug99:

I know I can not begin to say I know how you feel. But I think I speak for us all when I say our hearts break a little each time also. Don't forget we all fall in love with your fosters (via your excellent posting on their antics) and unfortunately none of the new familys join and take the time to keep us all updated on them.
I think because Dax is a special needs pup, and he really did need you and your love soooo sooooo much, that is why this one is a tiny bit harder on you. We all want to be needed and who needs us more than our dogs.
I love what you do for our breed, and I know Dax will always have you foremost in his little heart.
Would you mind making it a requirement of adoption that they join this board and keep us all updated!!! Just kidding

I have told just about every adopter about the boards but none have really made it in. I do get updates from time to time and will always be sure to post them!

Austin was my last foster, my last failure :ashamed: After he lost is eye, I just couldn't give him up, he's so danged endearing. Bold little monkey that he is... If given the chance, I'll foster another doxie in a heartbeat.
10 fosters. The multiplication of love is just astounding.
