View Full Version : Oktoberfest in Addison Texas
Oktoberfest is next Sunday - Sept 21st.... I know, somehow wrong to have in Oktoberfest in Sept....but they always do !!!
Sandi (TheDoxieHaus) is planning on going - she lives north of me appx 30 miles or so. We plan to try and meet each other - Mini meetup !!!!
Sandi - I am off Sandy Lake and MacArthur - do you want to swing by and we follow each other out there, or just plan to meet out there?
I just checked the 10 day weather forecast and it is supposed to be partly cloudy - 85 degrees, with 10 % chance of rain - should be a nice day !!! Last year it was hot and humid - and there were tons of dogs !!!
The parade starts at 2:00 in the main tent - put on by the DFW Dachshund Club, then the dachshund races, I think start at 3:00..... we will race again this year !!! It is a hoot..... a very short race - maybe 25-35 feet long, so not strenuous. I heat up smokey links and wrap in foil and then let each of mine smell them before the race - hee hee !!!! My sister in law holds them and I am at the catching end.... I let them get a whiff and then back up to the end trying to hold their attention. There are no gates or anything like that - so they are able to see. It is really fun and .... funny !!!

I have to work or I'd be there on Sunday. :( I think we are going Thursday. BTW, Oktoberfest is in September in Germany too! It starts next week.

Well shoot.... wish you could be there !!! Well I sure learned something new - I had no idea Obktoberfest is celebrated in Sept in Germany - very interesting !!!!

I wish I could make it. I would love to be a part of the parade, you will see some seriously good looking dachshunds there and perhaps some of Sophie, Lili and Saffyre's relatives. I am a member of the DFW Dachshund club but I just cannot afford the gas. I will be in Prosper for Earthdog in October though!!! This will be my first time as a judge...eep! I hope you can come out and watch or even participate (but your dog has to either have an AKC or ILP number).

Oh wow - wish you could make it too !!! I didn't realize you were a member of the club ! Do you know Ron and Delia who have Ilsa and Gretchen ? Very kewl - being a judge !!! I actually tried Rudy once many years ago and he wouldn't go into the tunnel.... my little macho boy is chlastrophobic (I know that is not how you spell it, but spell ck didn't have any options !) just like his mama !

Why don't we try and meet at your place and then drive over, that way we will not be wandering around looking for each other! I can't wait, I'm excited to meet you and Rudy and Brandy! I'll get in touch with you this week.
We tried to run our two in races once and they never left the starting gate! :rotfl: So we will probably just be bystanders this time.

Mine are definately NOT contendors - it is just fun to try !!! They most likely wouldn't run without the enticement of Smokey links - LOL !!!!

Zandra, we will be at earthdog for sure. I'm going to enter Thor and Fred. It's at the farm where I used to ride horses!

just checked out the DFW website - Oct 18, 19..... just might have to take a day trip that Sunday !!! I took a look at the website for the farm too - wow - looks awesome !!! Been a long time since I rode a horse !
