Welp our club was doing this new thing called Q's for a Cure-actually one of our members came up with it-you turn your ribbons back into the club so they can re-use them and the club donates a dollar for each one to the NCCF (National Canine Cancer Fund). So no pretty ribbon pics. She only had 3 ribbons and gets nothing special for that super Q run :) IF she gets 2 more of those and 2 regular Q's in master's snooker, she will get a title for that and a ribbon for that maybe. Or not...
My friend Becky said as soon as USDAA posts results for that trial (it will be awhile) Salsa will be the number 1 PIII Snooker chihuahua in the US (And CanUda) she thinks. We get some sort of points for those Q's and the only Chi in the top 10 has ONE point and Becky thinks we get more than that. YOu can tell I'm all up on this stuff....NOT. But it's exciting anyway.

Okey Dokey. YOu know how snooker works? Red jump, numbered obstacle, a different red jump, numbered obstacle (can be the same) yet another red jump and numbered obstacle, then 2,3,4,5,6,7 and over the line to stop the clock. We had 47 points. Took us 46.96 seconds. Course time was 52. We did the red at the bottom, then 3, red jump in the middle, then 7, then the red to the right of 7, then 7 again, then between 7 and the red and all the way down to 2, around to 3, then all the obstacles had to be taken going OUT (except 7) cuz you must start on the side where the number is. So 6 front crosses total to keep Salsa's turns very tight and to keep her from getting an off course.

Well, yeah, we humans mess up in snooker all the time! More often than not, in all of agility, it's the handler that messes up, not the dog. You can forget the course...not be clear with your body language where you need the dog to go (that happens ALL the time-just a step in the wrong direction can send a dog to the wrong obstacle...a dog uses proximity first, direction of movement second, the angle of your shoulders or arms prob. third...way down the line is what you SAY...) I love snooker but it takes time to learn it and learn how to plan a course that is right for your dog. You take one obstacle out of sequence...take a numbered obstacle before you do a red, for example, and its over. MANY snooker runs are really short!
This was a really wierd snooker course..they usually are not all jumps but really it was perfect for Salsa except for the yardage..that was a serious amount of distance for her and a lot of jumps at 8 inches..she is only 6.5 at the shoulder. But she is so tiny she can turn very quickly to change direction and can be maneuvered between the jumps a lot more easily than a big dog.
Hardest part really was all the front crosses...handler has to pivot 180 degrees on one leg in front of the dog in order to change sides (you want to be on the inside of curve of your path). It's hard on the knees.
It was soooo much fun though..I can still feel the rush as she finished #6 (she would have qualified at that point) and we ran sooo fast to 7 and when we got it before the buzzer went off and everyone was cheering it was SOOOO cool. Salsa just kisses and kisses me after her run and her whole body is shaking and she's so excited. Such a sweet little dog.
