Otis, the Fattest Cat I Knew

I went to the grocery store today, buying the dogs more frosty pawz for being so good. When I came back I noticed Daisy May was bloody. Thought maybe she'd gotten in a scuffle with Ledia, which has happened before. I glance over to the cat's room, my computer room and see a mess, cat litter everywhere with the water bowls spilled an empty. I see Lily, Lilah and Oz on the cat trees, but I didn't see Otis.
Look closer, and see him at the base of the cat tree, his body practically denuded of hair and back leg bloodied. I feel him and he's cold, but go and get my sthethascope and check for a heartbeat, and there was one. I called Dr. Moore asking what I should do and left a message and put him in a box and into the truck. He called me back and said he'd look at him and most likely based on my description, euthanize him.
Otis couldn't wait that long, he had waited till I got home to give in to the shock from the attack.
I am so sorry, Otis. I failed you by not providing a safe harbor for your obese butt to go to in case the dogs got in. Daisy May got hurt in the melee too, but I haven't had a chance to check her out, just punctures as I know she was in the lead of the attack, and quite frankly, I can't muster much sympathy for her right now.
No smirking cat tins for Otis this time, I let him go. What kills me most was that the last time I spent with him, I wasn't nice, shoving him out of my way as I've done 100 times before. I'm sorry Otis. I'm sorry. No cat should ever suffer the fate you did. I didn't know they would knock down the gate. I didn't know.

Andrea, I am so very sorry. :hug99: :hug99: What a horrible thing to come home to. Otis was a lucky, obese cat as he had you for a human. And no matter how many times we push our cats out of the way~they know we love them~that's why they are always there to be pushed out of the way. It breaks my heart to think of poor Otis' last moments.....and how brave he was to wait until you got home to say goodbye.

Just looking at Otis, umm.... if LOVE = FOOD for cats the way it does for doxies, it easy to see how much you loved him.

Otis was a rescued cat from the pound, who, when I rescued him, weighed a normal kitty weight. He was adopted by a couple of guys who SIGNED A CONTRACT stating that they would not be moving into any apartments that didn't accept pets. After a year, they moved into an apartment that didn't accept pets, and he was that fat. Tried diets, had him checked as to just why he was so fat, to no avail. Otis was just a fat cat who liked to block the computer screen, sit on the trackball and scratch my arms.

I am so sorry Andrea. I had an cat named Otis who was fat but mostly around his middle. He resembled a cow. When he went to the Bridge because of old age and ill health, he was skinny every place but around his middle. Maybe it is the name, I don't know, but Otis Cats are great cats, IMO So, now there are at least two Otis Cats playing and eating together.

oh hell. I knew I didn't want to open this thread - knew I didn't want to read it but like a car wreck I couldn't help myself. Now my eyes and nose are leaking and my heart is breaking.. for you. I only dream about being as good a Mom as you are. Otis knew you loved him! Even if you pushed him out of the way. You love all yo have with all you have.

You could not have prevented this, accidents happen, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. Just know that you gave Otis the best life possible, and he knew it. :hug99:

OMG Andrea I am soo Sorry about Otis. I really loved that guy. I enjoyed your Otis stories about computer blocking etc. Cats don't get round without a little bit o'love. You do a fantastic job with all your pets and they are all very fortunate to have such a loving caring home. I know a few wonderful fat cats who I am sure are greeting him on the bridge.
