o.k., I'm at the end of my rope here.

Molly has been doing VERY good as far as going pee and poop outside, until two weeks ago that is.

Last Friday night, I had two of my girlfriends over. While I was in the other room chatting, my friend Michelle, yells, NO! I rush in the livingroom and Molly had started to pee on the carpet. So I take her outside and she finishes her business.

Earlier this week, she had a TINY pee accident on the couch.

And now, once again, I come home from work and she has pee'd in her crate. I am beyond upset with this crate stuff. I have to now go out and buy ANOTHER CRATE, a new bed and blankets. Unfortunately, I have to get her a wire crate because I can't continue to keep buying the cloth fold up ones, which i freakin' love.

I think I'm so pissed simply because I'm looking to purchase a home near work so I can be home quickly to take care of her and I would prefer to move further away (finance reasons). There is no way I will be able to afford a dog walker during the day while I'm at work. But I can not continue to come home to the smell of pee and a nasty crate. And for the 3rd time this month I've had to give her a bath, which is not a big deal, but I'm afraid her skin is going to get dry (I use Oatmeal shampoo, so I'm hoping that won't hurt her skin).

And no, she can not use pee pads, because I'm renting for a friend right now. There has been no schedule change at all with me, everything has been the same. And yes, I put her nasty pee'd on blanket outside when she does her business outside.

I'm sorry if I sound like a b*tch, but I'm ready to hit my head against the wall. :hissy:

Nancy, I have had wiener dogs forever, and none of them have ever been 100% housebroken. I KNOW they KNOW BETTER! and 90% of the time they are good. But there are those times that mine will pee and poop in the house. Every one I have ever had. Even old Harold who is 16, if it is raining, forget it, and they are sneaky too! I think I have figured out the times they do it,
but they will sneak and do it! It truly seems strategic!

Many times as you know, they are trying to send a message. Only you can interpret what that might be.

I have acceepted it and it has not gotten worse, it stays about the same at 90% great, 10% sneaky pee/poop in the house. I buy blankets at thrift stores, and keep old sheets and blankets on the couches when I am not around. I just don't know what else to do, but my point in all of this, is that I think it is something in the breed. Does anyone else with multiple doxies through the ages notice this?

How old is Molly and how long has she been housetrained? Did she pee in her crate before???? It could be a UTI.....especially if it smells that bad. nNo doxies are not the easiest dogs to house train and that is stated in most books on doxies, they are stubborn lil guys.....My Hans NEVER had an accident once he was trained (which did take 3 and 1/2 years HAHA ....until he developed Cushings @ 15....Jen is 100% housebroken and if she has an accident it is MY fault....the baby, well she's a baby. Carlee has only been a foster w/ me for 3 mths but, Jen has taught her really quick how the potty thing works....99% of the time if they have an accident it's MY fault.... Why can't you use potty pads???

When I got Molly from the rescue back in November, they estimated her age at six years old.

I can't use pee pads, because I'm renting a room from a friend of my. So until I get my own place, I'm stuck. Plus, if I start using them, then it's teacher her to pee and poop in the house, which is not cool.

Maybe it's just a phase?? I really don't know what it could be.... Sending some :bigrayz: :bigrayz: in hopes Molly gets back to 100% or at least 90%??

Yes, mine were all rescue's too so I never started them from puppy stage.

Perhaps the pee pads are better then your friends carpet and furniture for this temporary time? Does your friend have dogs that may have left some "scent" behind?

sorry you and she are having dificulties...

Try not to get too stressed out....she will sense it! Potty pads don't teach them to go in the house, they can differenciate a potty pad. ...of course they will tend to gravitate towards white squares...:rotfl: ( Cami saw a piece of paper on the floor at my work (potty pad size) and ran for it when she had to go):cheer2: :cheer2: Go Cami!
Anyway it sounds like you have a lot of pressure on you being in someone elses house and your doxie can be feeling that tension and be getting nervous  Try to be patient...is your living situation permanent or temp?

It sounds like there was too much excitment in the home that evening and Molly was stressed and it made her urinate inappropriately. Did you take her out to potty prior to company coming and during the time they were there? I suppose it could be a number of things and you will have to be patient as I am sure she didn't mean to. Something upset her and she shouldn't be punished. Since she had an accident on the couch, another possibility would be a UTI, perhaps you should take a sterile sample of urine to the vet and have it tested.

Did she see you clean up her mess? Maybe she did it truly by accident the first time (drank too much water, maybe you missed the "sign" of her wanting to go out by even a minute or two being distracted by your company or she didn't want to "bother you") - but seeing you clean it up tells her that you are approving of it.

The other possibility is that there is something wrong...does she have a little infection or irritation maybe and can't help it? Ate something weird that didnt agree? (not something you gave her but somethign dachsies inevitably investigate)

ITA, do have her checked for a UTI. And maybe invest in some enzymatic cleaner for the blankets.
