I thought I'd give updates on all of my former foster boys.

Hi Shonda,
Thanks so much for the package!! It took Flash only a few minutes to de-stuff one of the toys, but one has held in there for a few days now... Our wiener-world household is great and Flash is doing well, but I'm afraid we are STILL working on the housetraining... We've decided to find a trainer to help us out. I've been to dozens of dachshund web sites and read some books, but Flash is just not picking up on this as easily as we'd hoped. He has gotten much better about spending time in his crate, and when we're home he's on a leash in the same room with one of us at all times unless he's squirrel hunting with George in the backyard, so there's no unsupervised time in the house. We've rewarded him and praised him for all his pottys outside, and he's on a good eating/walking schedule, but he will occasionally squat in the house when I'm standing right next to him!! He's still just such a sweet dog though- (he's on my lap right now) and I'm hoping this is just the terrible twos and he'll grow out of it. I know he'd love to run and play with George and Annabell all over the house instead of just one room at a time, but he's just not ready yet. Maybe someday. I'm sure the trainer will have some good advice.
And then she wrote me again:
Shonda,
He's doing very well. We've been very busy lately and have not had time to call the trainer, but in the meantime Flash has been exceptional, so maybe it's catching on. He goes right in his kennel when I ask him, and we don't have to use the leash so much in the house anymore... good boy! Those rawhides are paying off.

... So how are you doing? Doing well here. Brooks is out of town since yesterday until Sunday so I have five dogs on my hands by myself. And it's a shame it's so nice out because I'd really like to take them all on a walk. It's kind of hard to do though with all five and just me. Frankie is doing very well...I've changed his diet to Science Diet sensitive skin or something like that and his hair is growing back a little bit more on his chest. He's just a funny funny little guy. HE LOVES THE OTHER DOGS!! He always wants to cuddle with one of them...whether or not they do with him is another story. But he is doing very well. I took some pictures of him eating his greenie the other night so when I get them developed I will have to send you a copy. Our posts are up for our fence and they said that the rest of the fence would be up in the next 7 days after that. Well it's been 7 days and still no fence. I'm getting a little impatient. I just want to let them all out and let them chase eachother around without a leash. So if they're not out by tomorrow I am going to give them a call. Well that's all I have for right now...I will keep you in mind if we have another un-adoptable doxie (I'm sure we will sometime). Take care and talk to you soon!

Miles went to the vet last evening and already has a new girlfriend (the one receptionist) who is going to elope with him and run off to Tahiti (she’ll smuggle him to avoid quarantine period). Tee-hee He’s quite the chick-magnet!
He got further shots and Flea & Tick preventative. He goes back in 1 month and that is when my vet is going to finish boosters and give him rabies vaccine. After that app’t we will schedule his neutering. The vet currently is only feeling one testicle, but she said the other could drop in the meantime or they will do a “seek & find.”
She found his eyes to be reactionary to light (pupils were dilating) and the eyes also looked normal as far as blood vessels and the view within the eye. Further down the line, we are going to take him to an ophthalmologist to take a deeper scan of the eye to see if they can determine the reason for the blindness and if it could possibly be treatable. We have a wonderful teaching hospital nearby (Red Bank Veterinary Hospital) who has an ophthalmologist on staff, as well as another emergency care specialty hospital nearby who also has another on staff. ... We would never rush any of that and would only do what’s best for Miles, but you never know what might be able to be done for him. My vet said his rods and cones could just be scrambled and sending mixed signals to his brain. She was just impressed with how ‘normal’ his eyes looked. I remember Cindy in VA had a foster who did not walk for 13-weeks, and then suddenly was fine. They attributed that to something neurological, so maybe Miles could have something like that even. I will certainly keep you posted on that end.
Miles is doing fine. He is enjoying being outdoors now that the weather is beginning to warm up. As long as he can hear your voice, he is fine sniffing around. He’s even wandering further and further away while sniffing through the grass or trying to “track” the other dogs while they are running around the yard. He’s learned where in the house the pee-pee pads are and makes the effort to get there. He is still having occasional accidents, I guess when he can’t make it there or can’t find them. The majority of the accidents are on tile flooring, so cleanup is no big deal.
I will keep you posted on Miles’ experiences. Oh, and he has an underbite! Another part of the Miles charm, but something to watch in regards to his jaw alignment when his adult teeth start to come in.

Just had to tell you…I was looking thru the vet papers for Corey and discovered that he and Quincy got fixed and teeth pulled on the very same day…3/3/06! Another coincidence! I think that is so cool! Last nite in bed after they were done wrestling around, Corey settled down but he laid there and chewed on his tail! He chased it a couple of times in a couple little circles and then starting chewing on it again! That was kind of weird! He is so quiet too! Even when they are playing around and wrestling, he doesn’t make a peep. Once in a while when they play tug-o-war with a toy, he will get a little whiney…like he’s crying “let goooooooooo!”
He’s too much. He has become my little shadow. He follows me everywhere. When I shower, he sits right there by the bathtub waiting. While I’m fixing my hair and stuff, he’s right there by my feet! Quincy does run him ragged….maybe he’s hiding out so he doesn’t have to play with him so much! He also likes to go down under the bed covers. The other two just stay on top, but he dives under for most of the nite! I’m in dog heaven with the three of them! I wish you could see them all together! I spent time with them outside last nite trying to get some shots of them. and as always, I have a great one lined up and right as the shutter is going down they move!! It’s practically impossible to get them to stay still for 10 seconds in a row!!!
But I’ll keep trying so I can send you a picture.
So, it looks like everyone is doing great!!! I can't believe I've already placed four beautiful boys.
