Thought I would pass on this little tidbit of info for all the victims of chewing incidents. Works on any dog AND hoomans, too! :boogie:
Ok, we all know that Bitter Apple just doesn't cut it...but, there is an answer to keeping that pupper away from anything including eating your deck or walls and credit cards....and it's in the spice aisle in the grocery store.
I'm speaking of the spice ALUM! It's a white powder, a pickling spice actually, and when you mix a bit of it with water to the consitency of cookie frosting (think of powdered sugar and water) and then lightly spead it on said items....this is what happens.
You furkids' mouth will turn inside out and they will never do a chew on that item again. Remember...picking spice.
Try it a little bit to make sure it will not discolor items, then set your pup up. Leave out that old boot or whatever they like to chew and be there when they turn inside out...Give the command "NO Chew!" very firmly and they should back away from the item. Praise them when they drop it and back away. They may or may not desire a treat, but physically praise them briefly and then turn you back on them and walk away. That means you have dismissed them and the incident. It's a body language signal to your dog that we are done. Very important to do.
I've used this method myself (have 2 bottles due to Maia  ) and helped a man save his new deck from his chocolate lab who was systematically eating it. The chewing stopped immediately!
If you use it, please, let me know how it works for you. Thanks!
