I am new to the group. My name is Mary. I live in the northwest corner of Alabama. I have had a dachshund as a part of my family for over 35 years. I currently have 6 dachshunds and 1 cocker spaniel.
I realize it is bad form to do a plea for help as a first posting but time is running out to find help in this situation. About 3 weeks ago a man tracked me down at work needing to find a home for 2 dachshunds. Macy is a 10 year old red smooth and Heidi is a 7 year old black and tan smooth. I think that Heidi has found her forever home but Macy needs help ASAP. A lady that works for my groomer took both dogs in. Heidi seems to be doing okay but Macy is aggressive. Kristy has 2 children, 12 and 14. They do well around dogs. My pack of dachshunds loves both kids. Macy just can not handle all the activity of the family. She was pretty much kept locked up in a bathroom for her entire life and has had no socialization at all. Does anyone know of any rescue or sanctuary that would have room for this old lady. It would be so nice if she could find a peaceful place to live out the rest of her life. Kristy doesn't know how to deal with dogs that have issues and time is running out.

Hi Mary!!! First of all...:welcome2: to the DLC! You'll love it here...great folks who :hearts: dachsies (and cats and hedgehogs and assorted humans and....). Thanks so much for trying to help out in this situation! The absolute best thing you can do is get your friend (or you, if need be) to contact one of the many dachshund rescue organizations in your part of the world. You'll see a thread at the top of this section called "rescue links" and in it you'll find contact info for a number of orgs. A good place to start is Dachshund Rescue of North America (DRNA) or Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue, which are national US orgs. There a a number which deal with the southern US as well, which you'll also find there. These rescues will take the dog (or dogs, if necessary), place them in foster homes to be assessed and worked with in terms of training or medical needs as needed, and then, when they're ready, they will adopt them out to very strenuously checked approved homes. Good luck, and please keep us updated as to how it works out, OK? (By the way, age has no relevance to a rescue...on this board, we :hearts: seniors!)

I just noticed that a dog location is listed in Alabama on the Almost Home site
http://www.almosthomerescue.org/ so there must be someone local.

Isn't there someone here also who is with a southern dachsie rescue?

Welcome, and thank you for caring about Macey.
