Yesterday, I took Juney and Trixie out for a walk in the rain. It started hailing, so I thought I better bring them back home.
We were close to home, and under a tree, when they discovered a bird. Juney grabbed the bird in her mouth, and Trixie grabbed the other side of the same bird! They tugged on the bird until Trixie tore off the wing! :faint: She ran away with the wing, discovered it wasn't the bird, and ran back to get more of the bird from Juney. Meanwhile, Juney had shaken the rest of the bird, discovered it was dead and dropped it, and ran to find another bird! :seeya:Trixie ran to the dead bird, sniffed it, then ran off to get another bird! :seeya:
What was mommy doing meantime?? Trying my best not to faint or get sick! :yuck: I was in a state of shock during the whole time! :faint: :faint: :faint:
Sorry you had to witness that, but I'm sure in their minds they were trying to make mommy proud by showing off their hunting skills.
My Vet tolds a story about a Doxie that was being baby sat, at someones house and it had killed all 3 Pet Rats that somehow got out of their cages. He had them all lined up nicely and sitting infront of them all pretty.
Now as far as Pogo and Pixel, I would not want to see what they would do if they got a hold of any bird. Pixel is always chasing Robins away from our yard. When we water our yard the worms come out and the Robins like to Feed on them, which than ofcourse drives Pixel nuts.
Ewwwwww! I would be in a state of shock too...although it's great they are such wonderful hunters, but YUCK!!!

WELL, that sounds like a fun walk! :faint: At least you should have no problems with unwanted animal intruders in your house :D

That' s terrible! I' m sorry that they did that!
Last year, I saw a bird fall from a tree in my yard & went to see if it was a baby or if it was OK. I walked over & saw the it had been beheaded before it fell! I still have no idea what happened to it! I was wondering if it was a Hawk
that did it.
That's yucky!!!! Hope you got all the bird pieces away from da puppers!!!:yuck:

We were on vacation and saw a big crow getting harassed by smaller birds. Turns out, the crow snatched the babies from the nest to EAT them!! I saw it grab it and fly off. Felt bad for the parents but guess a crow's gotta eat too.
(Dolly says Good Job Juney and Trixie, but next time you should do more rolling in it first)
Oh boy, they're good hunters but its no fun for you! Tug of war over a living animal does NOT sound fun.
Tasha found a sparrow too young to fly the other day (or at least it didn't) but she ran up, sniffed, and kept on going. Whew!

Oh that must have been horrible to watch them tear apart the poor bird, I am sure though they thought they were doing a good thing... they sure have a strong hunting instinct..

Eeeewwww! Sometimes our little hunters can gross out their moms! :faint: Cash brought me a dead rat and was really upset when I didn't like it! Then when he realized I was going to try to take it away from him, he grabbed it and ran upstairs!

Now Trixie is bird obsessive!! Everytime I take her outside, she is looking for birds, down on the ground, up in the tree, up in the air, whatever. She wants the bird! I'm still grossed out from watching a kill. :faint:
Once they kill, though, they are no longer interested in that bird, they go looking for another live one!
