I have been thinking about this alot lately.
I have collars for Sophie and Casey and at times I think maybe they are on too tight. If I can fit one finger in and move it all around, I consider this to be just right. I know they aren't choking.
Is this right?

That is what I have been told using the thumb.

I fit mine more loosely....so I can slip my four fingers flat under it...I have also been told two fingers but that seems too tight to me!

One finger/thumb is the rule. Otherwise if you use it for walking they can walk out of their collar.

I use the four finger method as well, Puppen out grew her pretty purple collar already so she will be getting a new one for christmas. :)
When I took it off....

I only do two fingers since the incident where Pogo stopped dead, backed up at record speed and took off after a rabbit while Rafi stood holding a leash and collar with no dog..and then he had to run after him.
If they are in a harness around the neck I do 4 fingers.

i thought you should be able to fit in 2 fingers?
Supposedly the general rule is one to two fingers between the collar and the neck. A small dog would need less room. I would double check the fit by making sure it does not slip over their ears.
