I always wondered why they howl and what does it mean when they do?
When I sing and I know I'm not the greatest :sosad: . Sophie howls! Is my singing hurting her ears? I have a good chuckle about it and do it from time to time just to hear her howl. But, If it hurts her ears..........I will consider stopping!:rotfl:

Bailey howls when he hears my boyfriend playing trumpet..and only in the upper register. He doesn't do it any other time, and it doesn't seem to be bothering him...I think maybe he is singing along.

Buddy will be 3 in 13 days, and I have yet to hear him howl. Heidi would do it when we first moved in and the fire siren (just down the block, loud and annoying and not mentioned at time of renting...duh who'd want to live here if they knew?!) would go off. She has since gotten used to it and doesn't do it anymore. Ben used to howl all the time. If Cara was playing her flute, he'd sing along. If we left the house, he'd sit on the steps and howl (I could always hear him til I hit the end of the driveway when walking to the bus stop in school). We could even make him do it, if we howled for a few min, he'd join right in! I've always wondered why they howl too?!
They howl because it is a form of communication. Sometimes they do it because they are bored or lonely. The singing and musical instruments sound like howling so they just join in. Perhaps Mary will be able to explain it better. No your not hurting Sophie's ears. :rotfl:

Tasha never howls. DH and I both sing to her, but no luck.

I sing to my twins constantly, and no howling. Sigh. I wish I had a howler. My mother's shepard/beagle/lab mix howls if you do- it's so cute!
Actually, Rigby will "talk" if you talk to her in a high voice and don't touch her. She will roll over, then start to howl or bark at you- that's pretty cute, I guess.
The Prof howls his head off when a siren goes by.... Snooter, nope!
