I've gotten her a cute little travel bag from Target, I'm getting her the vet certification papers, I'll have wee wee pads, figuring at O'Hare we'll use the big stall in the bathroom so she can go with some privacy..... any last words of advice?

The Prof and dad will be doing some boy bonding while the girls are gone. Meanding Dad's going to lay on the couch in his underpants and the prof will be sprawled out next to him on his back. :rotfl:

Sounds like you have everything in order!

I flew O'Hare to LAX last year with Pokey. PM me if you have any questions!!

Just outside of baggage claim at O'Hare, there is a landscaped grassy area. (I flew American Airlines.) Maybe you'll make it outside if need be.

I was able to check in, spend a lot of time outside on the grass with Pokey, then go through screening later than I would normally do (-but not last minute). Just ask if it's OK to check in and return.

Weeks ahead I was told to bring Pokey in his carrier to a special check in counter to pay his $50 fee. He was a saint and slept the whole way. Here are :bigrayz: :bigrayz: :bigrayz: that you have a great flight!

Oh- I dropped little treats in Pokey's carrier during safe parts of the take-off and landing period. I figured the chewing action would help his ears adjust.

Here's a couple of suggestions off a Pet Travel Checklist:

*Travel with a leash but remove it after placing your dog in a crate, as it could become entangled.

*Pack a copy of your dog's health records and rabies vaccination certificate. Include a recent photo and physical description and consider a microchip to aid in identification.

*Add a sturdy I.D. Tag to your dog's collar that includes a telephone number where you can be reached if your dog gets separated from you.

* This applies to a crate, but I would have a huge I.D. tag hooked to your Sherpa or whatever travel bag she will be in.
Cover your crate, using stickers or paint or permanent marker, with notices that say: "HI! My name is XX. Please be NICE to me. Thanks!" and " I'm traveling from XX to XX on Flight # XX" and "My Parent's name is XXX. Phone: XXX. Cell: XXX." The more stuff that calls attention to the crate the better.

*Never sedate your dog during travel unless your veterinarian recommends it. Some medications can trigger equilibrium, respiratory, cardiovascular or temperature regulation problems.

*Get to airport at least a half hour earlier than usual, check in, but don't let them take your dog away until the last moment (usually 30 minutes before departure). Once you've checked in, take your dog outside for a walk and to let him relieve himself

*It is especially important that your dog is protected against infectious tracheobronchitis (ITB), a highly contagious respiratory disease in dogs. Contact with other dogs carrying this disease-causing bacteria could put your pet at risk.

Have a safe trip!

First of all, I can say is good for the lads!! I've been hanging/layin around in my Under-roo's alot lately cuz of the heat. As far as the peepin thing:scratch:  . Only time we traveled with pooches, they got a tiny bit of a doggie sedative cuz they had never been on a plane before!! They did okay, cuz it was only a few hr flight!!! Do you have a big layover at O'hare?? Good luck!!!!

first off make sure the carrier is sturdy...mikey d ended up putting a whole in his and practically escaping. also on the tags (and maybe i'm paranoid) i put his name my name my cell my parents name their cell his vets name and the vet's phone number...just in case. i also brought pooper scooper bags. but he was scared and never went until we reached dc. the benadryl does help. oh and when you reach the security check in you'll have to take your pupper out so the carrier can go through the xray machine.

oh and once we were in the air i put the carrier on my lap so he'd be a bit more relaxed. if he wasnt so angry i probably could have gotten away with taking him out and putting him on my lap.

Sounds like everything. A spray bottle if she barks on the plane? ;)

Maybe some wipes just in case she has barfies on the plane--oh and make sure you have a sick bag yourself....(remembering the trip to Texas)

My biggest piece of advice is take a blanket for her. It's very cold in the plane especially on the floor where she'll be. Piper is always freezing, so I put 2 blankets in there for her.

Other then that make sure she has something to chew on (if she likes to chew on things) because it will keep her occupied.

I'm not sure if you are giving her Ace or not. A lot of people say not to. Our dogs fly a lot and they get Ace every time without any problems. That's not the case with all dogs though. I would at least take some of the original Benadryl's with you (the ones in the pink/white box). If she starts whining and it's disturbing give her 1/2 a pill. If she continues you can give her the other 1/2.

If you're checking your bags and her food is in that bag take a small amount with you in a carry on bag. We got delayed at an airport once for 8 hrs and the pups were starving. I was so happy I had brought a small amount of their food with me on the plane. It was a total lifesaver!

OH...and my 2 never go potty on their trips. They seem to be uncomfortable with their surroundings and wait until we land to go. I take up their water a couple hours before leaving though, so they're not in pain trying to hold it.

I'm not sure what your flight attendants will be like, but we've been lucky most of the time and get to take the dogs out. We sit them in our laps and put a blanket over them. Some FA's are very strict about them staying in their bags and others just don't care (they'll come over and pet them).

Good luck!!
