I wasn't going to post this here but I just had to......
My neighbour (April) was nice enough to cat sit for me for the whole week-end while we are in Ohio.
She came by with her 2 girls ( I call them Lili and Matilda) to get the scoop on feeding Zoe and all that stuff.
The girls just love my budgie bird (Rasta) He will sit on your finger with minimal coaxing. He does come out of his cage and does a little swoop and fly by to Casey and Sophie and I knew his days would be numbered.
We never had to close his cage door, he would happily play all around his cage and chirp all day long.
April and I were in the basement talking about what to feed Zoe and how much to feed.
I heard the girls screaming "Casey No!" I ran upstairs to find that Casey had Rasta in his mouth. I told him to Drop him andhe did. I scooped up his lifeless body in my hands and looked over to the girls who were holding there mouths with their little hands and tears streaming down their faces. I was brave and told them that this was just a way of life. Casey has a high prey drive and we knew that Rasta's days were numbered. I held them both as the cried and kept telling me that they were Sorry. I told them that Rasta is now in Birdie Rainbow heaven flying free with all the other birdies that passed before him.
When they left...I fell apart!!!!! I cried in Doug's arms and stroked Rasta's head and body until it was cold. All I could say was "Wake up Rasta, Please wake up! Sing for me baby sing!"
I don't blame the girls or Casey. It just happened so quickly.
I've cried a few times already. He was only 2 years old. He was our very first pet.
Doug went out and got me a Sympathy card. He didn't know what to do.
Please help Rasta find his way to Birdie Rainbow Bridge.
Good-bye my little feathered friend..Thankyou for the wonderful music you chirped for me.

:hug99: to you. He'll always be a source of lightness and happiness in your heart, if you let him. Focus on the joy he brought you, that was his gift to you while he was here.:hug99: Your gift to him now can be to remember his life with with laughter, not his death with sadness.~

:hug99: :hug99: :hug99: Janet. You were very brave and did right by those poor kids. Such an awful situation for all involved. Casey was just being a dog but that sure doesn't make it any easier. :hug99: :hug99:

:ditto: So sorry to hear about Rasta, Janet. It's never easy to lose a fur (or feather) kid. I lost my budgie Ben to a neighbour's cat who had snuck into the apartment many years ago. Cried for days (and must confess am not all that fussy about cats as a result...). :hug99: And good on Doug for being so caring!!!

The sweetest little cockatiel, Harry, will meet him at the bridge and take him under his wing....and introduce him to all the other little birdies. I know how they can steal your heart. So sorry to hear of this loss.
