View Full Version : Can someone explain this to me?

If I have TWO of the SAME chew treats and give each dog their own treat, why is it that one dog chews their treat, while the other dog watches on with the other treat on the floor, untouched?

I don't understand this. It happens EVERY single time. Usually Butters is the one staring down Rigby. He's so picky about his treats, although I don't know what his standards are and why the treats that look exactly the same to me don't measure up. My other thought is that he likes it prechewed, so he doesn't have to start the treat and get it all wet and soggy. Gross, huh?

I can usually get Rigby to eat the untouched one, so i have to distract her and then switch the old one out for the new one.

Do any other dogs do this? My parents' dogs go right into their treats, afraid they will be stolen by each other.:rotfl:

This is pure Cricket behavior at my parent's house. They will all get the exact same looking chewie - and he will wait until the gross, wet, slimy one is abandoned then move on it. Ewwwww....

Gunner and Petunia do that they want the treat that was chewed on--if Gunner chews his first Petunia waits to get to it, if Petunia chews hers then Gunner sits and waits for it.

Mitzi does this from time to time but it's Ruby who everyone has to watch cause she seems to think she needs ALL of the chews. Silly girl.

For my two, it depends on the treat. There is one type that Nathan will not even touch at first because Abby steals his and takes BOTH to hide around the house or yard. (it's very cute watching her try to carry both in her tiny mouth! :rotfl: )
At first I thought he was just letting Abby have it because she seems to want it more but I've seen him follow her around watching where she's putting it and taking it back after it's been chewed on and covered in dirt. Yuck! Although the look on her face when she catches him is funny! :rotfl:

Now that you mention it, he's probably waiting for her to "get it started" for him!

At my house that game is called 'Chew and Snatch'. One watches the other chew and then tries to snatch the treat when he's distracted.

Jenny and Bailey do this, and it happens at my parent's house with Scout and Bailey. I don't know WHY they like the nasty one, but poor Bailey always ends up chewing the hard one over and over and the other two troll around until he leaves it. Poor guy.

Is it a pack thing? I feed the two dinner, basically the same exact stuff. Issy the one year old will sit and watch Sam eat, then she washes his dish then starts on her dinner. Toys are different. I gave them the exact same new toy the other day. I held them out and let them pick the one they wanted. Issy wants both of them so I have to prevent any fights. They have exchanged the toys so many times I forget who had it first. They are different colors so I know the difference in that way. Dachies are interesting creatures, aren't they.

I only have the one pupper--but if Tasha doesn't finish a flossie or a bully stick and I give her the "leftovers" the next day, she will often take it, then set it aside and come back to me to try to get a "fresh" one!

Exactly! :rotfl: Julius will usually do the following when "treat time" comes around. I'll start by giving each pupper 1 treat, Julius will then...
1. Drop his own treat from mouth 2. Stare Lindon down, until Lindon drops his treat. (Which the little pushover does willingly!) 3.Quickly inhale the stolen treat. 4. Grab his own treat, and run away.

My 4 each take the treat they are given and scarf it down in warp speed. They'll look at each other afterwards to check if anyone is still chewing but nobody ever has anything left. Even Charlie, with his 6 teeth, finishes at the same pace. They're the same way at mealtime. They never try to get in each others bowl until after the owner of the bowl walks away. Oscar always belches very loudly after a meal, he has no manners whatsoever

Dog belches always make me laugh. My humor is so juvenile, but since it's in dog years I think that makes it OK.
