View Full Version : Sound Proofing?
Okay all you apartment dwellers, I need your help! My apartment's front door is right in the path of everyone walking up or down the stairs to their apartments. Any tips on soundproofing the inside of the door a bit so Pippit won't go nuts each time someone walks by?

Oooh, that's a tough one. I'm not an apartment dweller and didn't have dogs when I was. Maybe some of our other apt people will have some ideas for you.
There has to be something?!? What about the weather stripping, that should give you a nice tight seal and some noise resistance - but I don't think it will look really pretty.

I don't think there is much you can do other than swap to a heavier door (Like solid wood instead of what most apartments have ~ hollow type doors). Someone else here may have better options. I hated living in our apartment. Not only was it noisy in the hallways, the walls were thin and we we were on the second floor of a three story building.

I'll ask my male do-it-yourselfers as they would have some good ideas. Can you give me a $$$ estimate on what you can afford? Pm me if you wish to. That sure would help Mr. Pippit to adjust even faster, if he needs it. But, truly, Karen.... it would help tremendously when you are not home and the wee one is. I'll get back to you after I talk to my friends and we have a ballpark $$ figure.
Hang in there, girlfriend....we'll work it out with him and his new surroundings.
In the meantime...leave a tv or talk radio on to help drown out the noise. I use a fan (white noise and I can't sleep without it  ) and it helps them, too. I also have the tv on either CNN or mainly the Disney cartoon channel...no network as the puppers get upset at Jerry Springer and such. Took me a while to figure out why they were soooo very wonky when I got home from work each day. Disney is safe and calm.... Kinda!

Maybe you can put him in the kitchen or bathroom with a baby gate and leave the radio or TV on...

HAHAHA!! Yeah I'm with Mary, Jerry Springer will have Pippet throwing chairs at you in no time. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
That's a tough one Karen, as suggested probably a heavier door with weather stripping would be helpful but I'm sure won't cut out the noise entirely. Pippit may have to stay in your bedroom or the room furthest from the front.
