Is there even such a thing?
We have a little problem on our hands I think. Molly has always been a people doggie which is good and I wanted. She LOVES new people. But I took her on another shoping trip to Petco lastnight and as always she got LOTS of attention but it drove me nuts because every time she saw someone she'd get really excited and want to run up to them to say hi. This is cute and all but not when she forgets every thing else to do so. I mean what if they didn't want her to run up to them? Or better yet, what if Mommy didn't want her to run up to them. I need help ya'll. I want her to be friendly but I also want to be able to control her at all times. There are some not so good people out there and she doesn't need to run up to everyone unless mommy says it's ok. This is worrying me sick now.

Okay, it sounds like Molly needs a little discipline. Assuming that she was on a leash (she WAS on a leash?) just bring her back to you and make her sit. Take treats with you to encourage the behaviour you want. She must learn to pay attention to you no matter who else is around.
If she won't sit, start working at home. Work with her there until she ALWAYS comes to you when you call, sits, whatever. Then start working where there are a few distractions. Gradually work up until she will focus on you and do what you ask NO MATTER WHAT is going on. This isn't going to be easy, but it can be essential. It can literally save your dogs life and it can be done with dachshunds. They are harder to train than some other breeds, but they are trainable.

lotsadox thank you so much!
I haven't really had any trouble until now. I was always so proud to say that Molly has always been easy to train. But now she's picked up this little habbit that HAS TO STOP! Please pray that I can be strong enough to not give in to them sweet shiney black eyes. Or OMG that doxie beggin' she just learned with her little paws going and her bootie twisting while trying to balance herself. Oh this is gonna be tough!
:ditto: to what Patrice suggested. I don't remember, are you doing your own training?

Yes I have been doing my own training up to this point. I am starting to wonder if I may need to look into some professional training though. But up till now Miss Molly has been trained by Mommy and DLC.
Training books from the library or a DVD would help a great deal. I believe you can only do so much training on your own. I think it would be most helpful for both of you to be in an obedience class. :goodluck:

:ditto: I"ve been through obedience training with 4 dogs. Two of them went to basic and the CGC class and got their CGC certificates, but I still took Scooter to classes. I find that the structure of the class (plus the fact that I'm paying $100 for the 6 weeks) helps to motivate me to work with them more. Also, every dog has it's own quirks and it's sooo helpful to have an expert on the spot to ask. JMHO.
Great advice given!!! You are motivating me to start some clicker training with my two........they listen well, when they want to!!!

Ok I've thought about classes for a long time now and always let other's talk me into training myself. But now ya'll have helped me make up my mind. Thank you! It's settled....Molly is going to school!!!
:cheer2: :cheer2: The classes will definitely help you train Molly.
